Celebrating Interims

Lainston House Hotel in Winchester was the venue for last night’s Wessex100 Interim Manager of the Year awards ceremony.

The black tie event, sponsored by RSM Tenon and Intramezzo, was a celebration of the country’s leading Interims and their contribution to business both within the Wessex region and beyond.

After a sumptuous dinner, President of the Wessex100 and Intramezzo Chief Executive, Dermot Hill, addressed the high profile audience (comprising business leaders and acclaimed interim executives) to discuss the unique value that interims offer to industry.

Dermot then handed over to Simon Drake, an Executive Committee Member of the IMA and part of the Senior Leadership Team at Penna Recruitment Solutions. Setting the scene for the awards, Simon talked about the key benefits of using interims – especially in times when companies and even countries are running out of money and looking to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.

It was then on to the main event and the presentation of the awards.

There were three accolades up for grabs:

The Interim Manager of the Year (Regional, Wessex) – awarded to Neil Birkbeck for his work with Tunstall Healthcare UK Ltd

The Interim Manager of the Year (National) – awarded to David Jones for his project with SONY Europe and the overall “Best of the Best” award – which went to Neil Birkbeck.

The quality of entries had been exceptionally high and the difficult task of selecting the winners fell to an independent judging panel comprising:

Philip Jarvis, CEO of Feonic PLC and Chairman of Mantic Point Solutions. Winner of the Intramezzo Interim Manager of the Year Award in 2009

Geoff Glover who, since 2007, has held three global VP roles at Volvo, Sweden. He now heads HR at Fords in Southampton and was a founder of Business Solent.

David Gaines, highly experienced in HR and Management and was latterly HR Director of a Government Agency.

All in all, the night was a resounding success and a wonderful opportunity to bring together some of the country’s leading interim managers.

The work of an interim can often be lonely but networks such as the Wessex100 can offer a real sense of community. Last night’s event was put together in the spirit of recognising and celebrating outstanding individual achievements within that community.

We look forward to next year’s ceremony.
