Intramezzo is pleased to give you details of a workshop for new/aspiring Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) run by Cass Business School and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. This workshop will take place at Cass Business School on Thursday, 28th October.
The workshop is aimed at those who are about to become an NED for the first time, or who are considering doing so in the future. It will focus on the duties and responsibilities of an NED, which are increasingly onerous, as well as using case studies to explore the two key areas around which the NED’s role revolves – strategy and governance, including risk assessment and management. The workshop will also look at the behaviours required in a Boardroom and what makes an effective NED. Over lunch, there will be an incumbent NED guest speaker – Charles Mackay, Chairman of Historic Royal Palaces and PSN and NED of INSEAD and House of Habib Group; previously Chairman of Eurotunnel Group, TDG and DSL, Deputy Chairman of Thistle Hotels, SID of Johnson Matthey and NED of HSBC, British Airways and Gucci Group - to “tell it as it is” in practice.
The presenters will be a combination of professors from Cass Business School and partners and directors from PricewaterhouseCoopers, bringing a powerful mix of theory and practical business experience. This will be an ideal opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the role of an NED and to share experiences with individuals at a similar stage of their career.
In the current climate, the role of an NED is not one to be assumed lightly and taking on an NED appointment needs careful consideration. With this in mind, the workshop will provide attendees with access to The Test, a due diligence tool developed by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP to assist in assessing the risks involved with accepting a new NED position. There will also be a showing of a film entitled ‘Risking it all’, which has been extremely well-received by existing NEDs, as an illustration of what the NED role might involve in practice.
The workshop commences at 8.30-9am for registration and finishes at 6pm. It will be followed by drinks which will provide an opportunity for the group to network. For further details of the workshop open:
